Outrageous and irreverent and always thought-provoking the legendary Kinky Friedman arrived on the national stage with his satirical country songs during the 1970s, making a name for himself as "the Frank Zappa of country music," and evolving the intellectual DNA of Mark Twain and Will Rogers.
Kinky Friedman and His Texas Jewboys toured with Bob Dylan & the Rolling Thunder Revue. The two frontmen have maintained their alliance ever since.
Friedman has spent his career making music, penning articles and a series of mystery novels, and running for political office. His race for governor of Texas in 2006 earned him nearly 13% of the vote in a field of 6 candidates. He also runs a sanctuary for dogs.
Not for the prim and proper, a Kinky concert involves riotously expressed ideas that veer outside the generally accepted rules of political correctness. Audience favorites include songs such as "They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore," "Get Your Biscuits In the Oven and Your Buns In the Bed," and "Asshole from El Paso."
In 2015, Friedman released his first studio album since 1976's landmark "Lasso From El Paso." "The Loneliest Man I Ever Met" features a number of new originals, along with covers and guest appearances by Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson.
Brian Molnar will be opening the show. For nearly a decade Molnar has been carrying his acoustic guitar and wrought melodies back and forth across the United States connecting audiences with a feeling of Americana tradition and unique thoughtfulness.
