During South Africa's apartheid era, young Sharon Katz sneaked into the "Blacks Only" townships by hiding in the back seat of a car. The music she discovered set the course of her life: she formed a ground-breaking 500-member multi-cultural performing group. She rocked South Africa with her "Peace Train"concert tour in 1993, inspiring people of all races, cultures, and political affiliations to put down their guns and prepare for peaceful democracy. The Peace Train hit the international music scene in 1994 as Cultural Ambassadors for the new government of Mandela, treating Presidents, Kings, and millions of fans on three continents to the unstoppable beat of their music. They were an instant hit in the US, selling out all their CD's at the first concert. They recorded a new album that included Sting, Paul Simon, Tina Turner, Elton John and Madonna. Two decades later Sharon continues to stir her audience to joy and hope every time she takes the stage, whether at a festival, an elementary school, or a folk club. Tonight she is joined by singer & dancer Wendy Khethiwe Quick who has partnered with Sharon in her music and humanitarian work for several years.
