Afro-Puerto Rican actor and musician Juan Candido Washington Landron, a.k.a Jackie Washington, was a prestigious first booking for Lena and Bill Spencer when they opened their coffeehouse in Saratoga Springs in May of 1960. Jack was one of the most charismatic performers on the Cambridge, MA folk scene, known as "the male Joan Baez." He recorded several albums, and his arrangement of the old British ballad "Nottamon Town" was used as the source for Bob Dylan's "Masters of War."
After taking a break from music to work on black voter registration in the south, and serving as a personal assistant to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., he resumed his acting career under the name Jack Landron.
After decades of work on stage and screen, Jack Washington Landron, continues to keep his hand in music by writing new songs and putting on charismatic live performances. His meaningful, storytelling lyrics range from wry and comedic to tender. His melodies embrace Latin Carribbean, jazz, blues, cabaret, and folk influences.
