THE NIGHTINGALE TRIO
The Nightingale Trio is a womens vocal arts trio inspired by traditional music from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. They are devoted to recreating the stunning harmonies and complex rhythms of traditional womens music, while also striving to expand its boundaries. The trio's three membersNila Bala, Rachel LaViola, and Sarah Larssonmet as vocalists at Yale, where the three were captivated by this music's stunning dissonances, asymmetric rhythms, intricate ornamentation, lush harmonies, and resonant strength. They have toured together as The Nightingale Trio since 2013including performances at Golden Festival in New York, ArtScape in Baltimore, the music series at St. Marks Episcopal Cathedral in Minneapolis, and on A Prairie Home Companion on NPR. With just three voices, The Nightingale Trio can fill a hall, yet maintain the tight, intimate harmonies of a family band.
