The music you're going to hear tonight is the kind of stuff that holds the bricks together at Caffe Lena. Oregon songster Lauren Sheehan has been called "A one-woman Americana jukebox." (Huffington Post) Her entertaining sets have a downhome feel, with their mix of old folk and blues, Tin Pan Alley, bluegrass, and popular music. Recent features on BBC and NPR radio, along with headline spots at national festivals, attest to her growing reputation as an Americana artist of note.  She studied her craft in the homes of the musical legends who inspired her path, including John Cephas, Ginny Hawker, Etta Baker, Carl Rutherford and Howard Armstrong.
New Jersey bluesman Frank Fotusky has a great repertoire of pre-WWII blues songs, a satisfying voice, and fantastic chops. "Like fine whiskey, he takes the blues, plays it smooth, and then has that bite that lets you know this is the real deal." (James Reams) With tunes from Blind Boy Fuller, Skip James and a few of his own, Fotusky wrings and sings each note off the strings, and the resonance is rewardingly beautiful. Blues lovers will eat up every note of his intricate rags, tender ballads, hardy instrumentals and dirt-diggers.
