Free program sharing the cultural & food traditions of Chief Seattle's Duwamish Tribe. We're breaking out the china and serving Native & English tea, scones & finger sandwiches with a NW Native twist. Your hostess is Princess Angeline's great-great-grand-niece, Cecile Hansen, the Duwamish Tribal Chairwoman. Tasty fun. Come early. Duwamish Longhouse Art Gallery & exhibits are opened daily from Mon-Sat 10-5. Free parking in area. Before the Hudson Bay Company arrived, the preferred native drink was pure water. Refreshing and healthful, it was sourced from one of the many fast running streams that feed the Duwamish River. With English Tea in short supply, Hudson Bay staff adopted the native Glandular Labrador Tea (L. Glandulosum) that became known as Trapper's Tea.
The Duwamish Native Food Program is sponsored by the DUWAMISH RIVER OPPORTUNITY FUND (DROF): Seattle Department of Neighborhoods & 4Culture. Bi-monthly program, 2nd & 4th Sundays, March-July.
