Cookbook Potluck: D.I.Y. Delicious

After a brief summer hiatus, our awesome cookbook pot luck is back! This month we are supporting local author Vanessa Barrington and her hot-off-the-presses D.I.Y. Delicious. This is a cookbook made for 18 Reasons: it is all about getting us back into the kitchen, sharing meals, and being creative! With Vanessa's easy to follow and practical language, we can all stock our pantries and larders with homemade goodies to spice up our favorite meals. Think: homemade jam, mascarpone, salsa, and butter. The brilliance of this book is that with each condiment, sauce, or side that Vanessa highlights, she also includes delicious suggestions for how to use it in multiple meals. Made Meyer Lemon and Parlsey Aioli (page 43)? Try it on Sustainable Seafood Stew (page 44). Or whipped up a batch of All-Purpose Red Chile Sauce (page 70)? Try it in cooked beans, reheated with shredded chicken, or stirred into polenta (ideas on page 24).

Rules are the same: Use the book all month and then bring your favorite dish from DIY Delicious to our cookbook on Saturday September 25th. Vanessa will be there to chat, sign your books, and share the meal! Wine provided by 18 Reasons.

Note: The recipe for mascarpone on page 124 incorrectly calls for cream of tartar. The correct ingredient is tartaric acid (available from cheesemaking supply stores). The amount called for is correct (1/4 teaspoon).

Note: If you chose the $40 ticket price, it includes purchase of D.I.Y. Delicious from Omnivore Books. If you want to pick up your copy before the potluck, simply go to Omnivore Books, located at 3885 Cesar Chavez Street in San Francisco, with your printed ticket confirmation. If you want to pick up your book at the potluck, no action is needed, we will have it for you at the event!
