Masters of Slapstick

Alloy Orchestra will play live, newly-composed musical scores for three hilarious shorts featuring the great Buster Keaton and Fatty Arbuckle. The Play House (1921) opens with a now-famous dream sequence in which Keaton plays every character in a theater simultaneouslyincluding the band leader, everybody in the band, all the dancers on stage, and everyone in the audience! Good Night Nurse (1918) is Arbuckle's surrealistic nightmare, where he escapes the operating table and inadvertently enters a "Great Heavyweight Race." Arbuckle also gives his best "in drag" performance playing a flirting nurse to Keaton's doctor. In One Week (1920), Buster Keaton (who also co-wrote and directed) assembles a prefabricated house for his bride during the first six days of
their marriage. Unfortunately the directions are sabotaged by her spurned suitor.
