Ambience Jazz Ensemble

Ambience returns for their 3rd appearance in the barn. Vocalist Leah Natale is the 2013 Seattle/Kobe Women's Jazz Vocalist Winner. Ambience has just celebrated their 300th performance. Their performances are always captivating.

Ambience is a Seattle based Jazz group dedicated to the sophistication and beauty of the
Golden Era of Jazz, as well as Brazilian and other Latin genres. Ambience blends the deep rich sound of the acoustic bass, the warm and engaging lines of the jazz guitar, and the infinitely varied and versatile sound of the wind synthesizer, the rhythmic mastery of one of Seattle's finest drummers, with smooth and sultry vocals of Leah Natale to create their unique and exotic sound.

Ambience Jazz Quintet's formation and success is rooted in each member's dedication to the sophistication and beauty of the Golden Era of Jazz. When this idea is mixed with modern swing and latin feels, you get the distinctive and intoxicating sound of Ambience which can be heard in their debut recording "The Second Set," that was successfully released in January 2009.

Leah Natale (vocals) has freelanced with bands in Chicago and Minneapolis. Leah studied
with Richard Davis, bass player for Sarah Vaughn and produced her debut album, My
Someday, recorded with a 10-piece jazz orchestra. Her latest project "Swing Easy" was
released in 2011 and her smooth vocals can be heard on radio stations throughout the country and have been well received in Japan. "Ambience's defining element is Leah Natale's singing." Her voice is pure, clear and she holds each of the melody's words for their full note value that creates a long, full, line that she finishes off with a touch of vibrato." Natale's delivery is playful, hip, sexy, at times coy, and she seems to sing directly to the individual listener rather than to an audience."Earshot Jazz - July 2009

Chris Busa (winds) played in bands throughout Southern California and has played the
college and amusement park circuit along with various Hollywood and Vegas club venues. He opened for Tower of Power, and was invited by the head of Jazz Studies to become the lead soloist for the Pepperdine University Jazz Band.

George Stone (guitar) performs regularly in the Northwest with a variety of great players in the Seattle area. He became interested in the guitar as a teenager. In his 20's George studied classical guitar. In the last few years he has been in-demand as a Jazz performer, requested frequently as a rhythm-section player by many Seattle area musicians. George plays a custom built 7-string guitar.

Burt Boice (bass) spent his nights gaining street credit by playing in local Seattle and regional jazz clubs while studying music in college by day. He has performed &/or recorded with international, national and local artists, such as multi-Grammy award winner Airto Moreira, legendary Brazilian percussionist, two-time Grammy nominee Jovino Santos-Neto, former Pianist for the legendary Hermeto Pascoal Grupo, Eduardo Mondonca, winner of the Brazilian International Press Award for outstanding Brazilian artist in the U.S., Buddy Catlett, former Bassist for such Jazz luminaries as: Louis Armstrong, Count Basie & Quincy Jones.

Burt includes guitar, electric bass, piano, flute, melodica, Brazilian percussion, composing and arranging to his growing musical arsenal.

Ken French's (drums - not pictured) career as a professional drummer began in 1980 when he auditioned for the United States Air Force band program. Upon passing his audition, Ken entered the Air Force and was assigned to the USAF Band of the Golden Gate, Travis AFB, CA. Subsequent assignments for Ken included working with the USAF Band of Mid-America, Scott AFB, IL and the USAF Academy Band, Colorado Springs, CO.

During his Air Force band career, Ken worked with a variety of musical groups, performing in big bands, rock groups, jazz combos, and many other musical ensembles. One of the highlights of his career was performing and recording with the USAF Academy Falconaires jazz ensemble from 1990-1993. Ken was also the drummer, bandleader, and producer of the highly acclaimed big band CD "Tower of Inspiration," which was recorded by the Shades of Blue jazz ensemble from Scott AFB, IL.

After twenty years of service, Ken retired from the Air Force in 2000. He and his family
settled in Mukilteo, Washington. Ken currently makes his living as a freelance drummer and music educator in the greater Seattle area.

The concerts are $10. This year we are offering a $75 season ticket for all 9 concerts a 16.7% savings over single ticket prices. The complete schedule for this year is:

May 11 - Bottom Line Duo; June 8 Rouge; July 13 - Uncle Bonsai; August 10 - Del Rey; August 24 - Kate MacLeod & Kat Eggleston; September 7 - Swil Kanim; September 21 Ambience; October 5 - Michael Partington & October 19 Crumac. In addition, there will be an Art Celebration at the Carnation Tree Farm before the concert on August 10. This will include artists displaying their work, music and food vendors.
