This Ain't No Mouse Music!
"It's impossible to look at the history of blues, Cajun and Zydeco music without looking at Chris Strachwitz' role. He's a monumental figure."  Bonnie Raitt

This Ain't No Mouse Music! takes us on a hip-shaking stomp from New Orleans to Texas, from Cajun country to Appalachia, in celebration of Chris Strachwitz's vision of American music. Strachwitz is a detective of sounds, an archaeologist of the deep American music, music with roots that strike straight into the country's heartland. He is the guiding force behind the legendary Arhoolie Records, producing albums that the Rolling Stones and many others played the grooves right off of. Since 1960, Strachwitz has been recording the authentic pulses of the great American music, throbbing away in the backwoods of the nation. His label offers an unparalleled catalogue of blues, Cajun, wild Hillbilly country, Tex-Mex and New Orleans R&B. These diverse musical strands seem to have grown right out of the ground they are played on. With tape-recorder in hand, Strachwitz traveled to plantations and prisons, roadhouses and whorehouses, churches and bayou juke joints. He returned with recordings that would revolutionize the sound of popular music. The film features Richard Thompson, Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Flaco Jiménez, Michael Doucet, Santiago Jiménez, Jr., Taj Mahal, The Pine Leaf Boys, the Treme Brass Band, No Speed Limit and more. 92 min; Official Selection, 2013 South by Southwest Film Festival.

Directed by Maureen Gosling and Chris Simon(Q&A with filmmakers and Chris Strachwitz after screening)

Film is followed by live music, with south-of-the-border rhythms, by the band Cumbaleros, including Frannie Leopold (vocals, guitar), Sue Crawford (3 row buton accordion, vocals), John Camberlin (lead guitar), Peter Barg (tololoche), Steve Davidson (percussion).
