The multimedia, one-man show From Wharf Rats to Lords of the Docks is a deeply human portrayal of Harry Bridges, one of the most important labor leaders of the 20th century, as he helped rally dock workers into better conditions and, eventually, the formation of the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union (ILWU). Ian Ruskin helps bring this truly inspiring story to life, using a combination of Bridges' fiery speeches, the words of his contemporaries, rare labor songs and archival footage. The play has been performed more than 200 times around the world and a film version aired on PBS for more than four years. Explore this colorful, intense slice of history that still resonates to this day through this remarkable one-man show.

BIO: Ian Ruskin, trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, has worked extensively in theatre, television and film in England and Los Angeles. His life-long interest in social justice led him to found The Harry Bridges Project in 2000. He has written and performed in three one man plays, and produced three radio and four documentary films including, along with Suzanne Thompson, the film version of "From Wharf Rats to Lords and the Docks", directed by Haskell Wexler, which aired nationwide on PBS for the past four years. His latest play, written with a COLA Fellowship, "To Begin the World Over Again: the Life of Thomas Paine" has been performed nationwide over the past two years.
