High Line/Meatpacking District Tour
New York City's High Line on the west side of Manhattan, originally went from being an abandoned elevated railway line to a major internationally renowned park which is enjoyed by tens of thousands of people everyday. It is near the Hudson River, once completely lined by piers for both freight and passenger boats (including the pier to which the Titanic was supposed dock at). The piers were eventually torn down and the surrounding neighborhoods became gritty industrial areas. With the opening of the High Line, it became a trendy residential area with art galleries and night clubs. It today terminates at what is know as the Meatpacking district, the area that supplied wholesale meat and poultry products to Manhattan restaurants, grocery stores and butcher shops. Now it is the hippest night spot in New York with new hotels, restaurants, clubs, upscale fashion stores and luxury residential apartments.
Come with us to explore the history and secrets of these two areas. The tour will last 2 1/2 hours so wear comfortable shoes.
