2017 will mark the fourth year of the Detroit Fringe Forward Festival, having featured the work of almost 150 artists since it began. The festival highlights works from Michigan playwrights and performing artists by providing a venue for contemporary work across a variety of genres, funding a commissioning program that grants production stipends to support festival shows and continuing to maintain the relationships between current and past festival participants, extending the reach of the Fringe Forward network as artists produce creative work. Running on the momentum from 2016, the festival will continue to explore new works and celebrate connections made through the performing arts.
The cutting-edge nature and boundary-pushing aesthetics found in Fringe Forward performances are important not only to Detroits theater artists and audiences, but to the success of the festival overall. The line-up encompasses a variety of genres from narrative theater to literary-inspired musical performances to avant-garde performance art pieces. At the end of the festival a Jurys Choice and Audience Choice award will be given to two performances, who will each receive a fully staged production spot in CMAPs 2017-18 season.

Festival dates run from Thursday September 28 through Sunday October 1st at CMAP Detroit, 2221 Carpenter Ave, Detroit, with the 8pm performance on Saturday September 30 at LightBox, 8641 Linwood Street, Detroit. An opening night reception will directly follow the performances on Thursday, September 28.
