What happens when a top scientist and the cartoonist behind the popular geek web comic Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal get married and birth a book? A hilarious and informative investigation into future technologies that will improve and/or ruin everything. If you're a fan of Mary Roach, popular science, Reddit (to be explained later*), or the future, this is the event for you!
So what is Soonish? The Weinersmith's picked out ten different emerging fields to explore with us and ordered them roughly from large to small, moving from outer space, to giant experimental power plants, to new ways to build thing and experience the world, to the human body, finally all the way down to your brain. No offense.
And what do you have to look forward to on this science-y Saturday evening? Entertainment and lots of laughs, of course. But also an in-depth look into why these future technologies are needed, how they would work, and what is standing in the way.

Come along with us as we ride this wave of augmented reality up a space elevator into the soon(ish) future. They will be in conversation with Annalee Newitz, the Tech Culture Editor at Ars Technica, and the founding editor of io9 and the author of Scatter, Adapt and Remember: How Humans Will Survive a Mass Extinction. Previously, she was the editor-in-chief of popular tech site Gizmodo. Her first science fiction novel, Autonomous, will be released from Tor in September 2017. Her non-fiction appears in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Wired, The Smithsonian Magazine, The Washington Post, 2600, New Scientist, Technology Review, Popular Science, Discover and the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
