Medicinal Herbs in Your Home Garden
Led by long-time local herbalist, Tina Tedesco, this workshop will introduce you to the many ways in which medicinal herbs can be used in our daily lives. Tina will focus on the everyday herbs and weeds that already grow, or that one can grow in their own garden. These herbs can become part of your family first-aid kit and have long track records of effectiveness in a wide range of applications. Some of the herbs that will be discussed are chamomile, yarrow, plantain, thyme, dandelion, echinacea, calendula (pot marigold) and lavender. You'll start off with an interactive tour of Sonoma Garden Park, where Tina will identify and talk about the properties of different medicinal herbs. Shell also share her knowledge of what plants to have on-hand for basic healthcare and first-aid uses. The workshop fee is $10 for Sonoma Ecology Center members, $15 for non-members, and free for Sonoma Ecology Center volunteers and Sonoma Garden Park community gardeners. ---- Tina Tedesco grows her own medicinal herbs and makes a variety of herbal products such as salves, tinctures and custom tea blends. She is also a certified Reiki Master and incorporates shamanic energy healing into her work. Herbal medicine is one of her greatest passions and she is eager to share it with all workshop participants. Sonoma Garden Park is a 6.1 acre public park, working farm, and educational resource. The land was donated to the city of Sonoma in the 1970's by Pauline Bond, a retired schoolteacher and avid gardener. The Sonoma Ecology Center developed and has been maintaining the Garden Park since 1993.
