Sanctuary Stories: What's Happening in Seattle?
*Tickets will be available at the door for $5.
Seattle is a Sanctuary City for immigrants facing deportation. But what does that really mean for people on the ground? Are vulnerable people truly being protected? Who is protecting them? How can we grow this movement that is so fundamental to our democracy and human rights? Here's your chance to get the inside story on Seattle's battle to protect immigrants from the xenophobic policies of the Trump administration. You'll hear from YES! Magazine editors and reporters covering the issue, and from key leaders in Seattle's immigrant rights community. In interactive break-out sessions with movement leaders you'll learn how you can get involved. Panelists: - Lorena Gonzalez, Seattle City Councilmember - Maru Mora Villalpando, Northwest Detention Center Resistance and Mijente - Michael Ramos, Executive Director of Church Council of Greater Seattle - Jorge L. Barón, Executive Director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project - (Moderator) Shannan Stoll, Sanctuary Issue Editor, YES!
