A PBS Retrospective with PBS pioneer Al Perlmutter
Close your eyes and imagine a life without PBS: No Sesame Street, Antiques Road Show, Downton Abbey, Great Performances or Ken Burns documentaries, just to name a few. It is impossible to imagine.

Join us on Sunday, April 30, as Palisades resident and PBS Pioneer Al Perlmutter shares footage and remembrances of the early stages of PBS and his work as creator and executive producer of the magazine show The Great American Dream Machine in 1971.

Sometimes described as a precursor to Saturday Night Live,
The Great American Dream Machine covered current event topics through the use of skits, comedy, music, satirical political commentary and featured segments with celebrities Chevy Chase, Albert Brooks, Penny Marshall, Charles Grodin, Henry Winkler, Andy Rooney, just to name a few.  In its time, it was bold, creative and ground breaking and now looking back it is a valuable time capsule of what social issues we have and havent solved.

Funding for PBS has been threatened in the past, but at a time when a recent proposal to eliminate 100% funding for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting (which in turn helps fund PBS and its 350 member stations) revisiting its beginnings is timely.

Producer, Executive Director and originator of 100 PBS documentaries, including Joseph Campbell and the Power of the Myth with Bill Moyers, for thirty years, Mr. Perlmutter has been the Director of The Independent Production Fund. Among his many awards and honors, he is the recipient of six Emmy Awards, five ACE Awards for Cable Excellence, four CINE Golden Eagle Awards and a George Foster Peabody Award.

SUNDAY, APRIL 30, 4:00 pm at the Palisades Community Center located at 675 Oak Tree Road in Palisades, New York.

Advance sale tickets are recommended.
