From EAST to WEST
Indian Classical/Fusion Music with storytelling
Come join us on a discovery of classical Indian music on its journey from east to west. Come hear pure North/South Indian sounds & their fusion into Jazz/Rock/New Age. Come hear new instruments & new sounds from musicians with roots in Seattle.
The evening will consist of classical music North India borrowing some from South Indian Classical music on Sitar, custom lap steel harp guitars (acoustic/electric), & tabla. The music will then move in to fusion/jazz when joined with Keyboard/piano. This journey of the music from east to west is interspersed with short anecdotes on the origins of the compositions, and the roots of the new sounds. Madhu Murthy is a multi-instrumentalist/inventor trained in Sitar & lap steel guitar from age of 11 under accomplished maestros of Etawah, Kirana, Jaffer Khani, & Carnatic styles.
Vishal Nagar is an internationally renowned tabla virtuoso and a true traditionalist of Indian Classical Tabla & innovatively creative in collaborative contemporary music.
John Cheney is a composer musician. As a keyboard player, he has performed with an eclectic list of bands and styles including jazz, improv, blues, rock, and Gamelan.
