Submerged the Play
"WAR, BETRAYAL, REDEMPTION" SUBMERGED, THE PLAY: An Original and Powerful New Play in Seattle Dramatically Examines the Psychological Effects of Military Sexual Assault.
SEATTLE, WA, April 16th, 2014 The statistics tell a distressing story: Military personnel are 15 times more likely to suffer sexual assault at the hands of their comrades than they are to be killed in combat. But, what happens beyond the statistics?
Too often assailants go free or receive lenient punishment. How do the victims cope? How do we measure their psychological residue, particularly when the victim is a woman who wanted a career as a professional Soldier in the Army?
These are among the questions Submerged, The Play asks audiences to ponder when it hits the stage at the Freehold Theater Lab/Studio, 2nd Ave., in Seattle, for two weekends: May 9th/10th/11th and 16th/17th/18th.
Submerged, The Play was adapted by Director Robert Bertocchini from a short screen play written by U.S. Army and Iraq War veteran Jacques Pugh. The story is a composite of actual situations and real people Jacques encountered in his military service and deployments to Iraq and Bosnia.
Veteran Seattle Stage Director and Actor Robert Bertocchini adapted Submerged, The Play, for the Theater after being cast in Pugh's original short film as the psychotherapist. He felt that the story should be told, and would adapt well as a Theater Presentation
Bertocchini's Dog On A Roof Productions is staging Submerged the Play, in cooperation with Jacques Pugh Productions.
Tickets are $20 (plus service fee) in advance or $25 at the door.
