The newly realigned Spirit of the Midwest Region 5 will be meeting for its first Fall Music School and Tribute to the Top at the Hilton, Kansas City Airport Hotel on September 20 - 21, 2013. The theme will be Hawaiian, so grab your lei and hula skirt and get ready for a great weekend.
Faculty for this inaugural music school will be The Stage Coaches. The Stage Coaches are three Sweet Adelines who have organized their respective expertise into a coaching team whose intent is to educate choruses and quartets in the art of performing. Jane Tamarkin, Gina Hodges and Karen Sweeters are all members of the Harmony On The Sound f/k/a Yankee Maid Chorus, seven-time Regional Championship Chorus. Their credits include professional acting, producing and directing professional theatre, choreography for musical theatre, quartet and chorus singers and chorus director. Gina is also a Showmanship judge and Karen is an Expression Judge.
The Stage Coaches coach quartets and choruses in the art of performance with emphasis on characterization. They have also served on faculty at Regional Weekends in the United States, Australia, Canada and Sweden. With their three areas of specialty, dance, movement, music and theater, the Stage Coaches combine their talents creating movement that enhances the music, fine vocal production and a rich emotional base for performance that has depth, texture and meaning.
Region 5 has chosen to continue Tribute to the Top, a longstanding tradition of Region 7 held during fall music school. During Tribute to the Top (TTT) the champion chorus and quartet are invited to perform for region members. Besides providing region members another chance to enjoy our champions, TTT is also a way to support their travel to the International competition later in the fall. Immediately following the champions' performances, all region members will have the opportunity to sing with both the chorus and quartets for a small donation. This year we will have 2 champion choruses, River Blenders Chorus and Kansas City Chorus, as well the potential of 4 champion quartets, Legacy, Heat, Vivid Image and Shades of Jade. How exciting to sing with the champions and support them at the same time! Aloha.
