Politics & Prose Presents Simon Sebag Montefiore
A prize-winning historian and novelist, Montefiore has a gift for bringing to life the outsize personalities of Russia's past. His STALIN was named History Book of the Year at the 2004 British Book Awards and YOUNG STALIN won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the Costa Book Award, and others; his study of POTEMKIN was shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize, while ONE NIGHT IN WINTER won the Political Novel of the Year Prize. His latest book, THE ROMANOVS draws on newly available archival material to chronicle three centuries of Romanov rule; profiling leaders such as Catherine the Great, Alexander II, Nicholas II, as well as their more obscure but no less colorful relatives and advisors, Montefiore vividly portrays the dynamics of court life and the complexities of dynastic politics.
