Especially Unexpected: Children of an Idle Brain
One woman, 14 stuffed animals, not one good reason to stay home. ..
Unexpected Stage is throwing a party to kick off its 2015 season, and you're invited! Join us as Briana Manente performs her new work "Children of an Idle Brain." In this festive atmosphere, event attendees will have the chance to meet and mingle with artists from Unexpected Stage's upcoming summer production of "Romeo and Juliet: Love Knows No Age," while enjoying light refreshments.
About "Children of an Idle Brain":
Unexpected Stage audiences will know Briana Manente from her hilarious performance as Dori in last season's Danny Boy. Originally conceived as a graduate school thesis project, "Children of an Idle Brain: A One-Woman Romeo and Juliet" is a fast-paced 40-minute ride through Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Subverting the usual interpretation, Manente performs all of the roles herself, with help from a cast of stuffed animals, which she manipulates with the skill of a puppeteer. Whimsical, comic moments give way to unexpectedly touching scenes, as Manente transforms from one character to another in a split second. As a special addition for Unexpected Stage, Manente has agreed to hold a "talk back" discussion with herself and the animals!
